Gravel driveways don't last forever, especially with times of heavy rain. When your driveway is looking and feeling worse for wear we can help.
We offer a range of services, for those who just want a basic spruce up with a grade of their drive and relaying of gravel (roadbase), through to using rollers to compress the gravel, and installing drainage options to try and prolong the life of your driveway by guiding water away from the roadway, minimizing the erosion that eventually kills all dirt roads.
We service roads from 20m to km long, and are happy to truck in hundreds of tonnes of gravel if that is required.
We will tell it like it is to find whatever happy medium suits you, so you get the service you need without the add-ons you don't. We'll give you the cheap and cheerful budget options, the expensive to top of the line works, and the (usually best one) middle ground - then you can decide.
Repair - the most basic fix. Fill potholes, sort out patches of missing roadway etc. These are typically short term fixes. for problems that will reappear.
Resurface - A do-over of an existing roadway. We grade the existing surface and lay down new gravel to create a fresh roadway. Typically we lay 100mm of roadbase gravel (20mm gravel mixed with finer crushed rock and sand 'fines'), this gravel compacts well, the fines locking together to form a rock solid road that will withstand vehicles driving on it.
We then use a heavy roller and compress the gravel, rolling it for a day until it settles and locks together.
Redesign - Is your Driveway/Roadway particularly steep, in a hilly area, or washing away regularly, or perhaps it has water issues in winter or high rainfall? In these cases we can assess the situation and design drainage solutions for your unique situation. We can install new side drains, run-off areas, slopes, culverts and gullies to reduce the main causes of roadway erosion - water and water velocity. This then extends the lifespan (and in some cases the access in poor and unsafe weather conditions) of your driveway.
Every driveway and roadway is unique, from length, topography, soil type, rainfall catchment and flow, vehicle access requirements, vegetation, budget and more. Your project might be simple or it might be complex, either way give us a call and have a chat to find out more about your options.
Using larger 150mm gravel in steep drainage areas can slow down water velocity, reducing erosion and maintaining water quality
Drains along roadways are designed to capture water, channeling it off the road surface where it causes damage.
Under roadway drainage. Used to move water from one side of a road to another, underneath the road.
Roadways cut into the side of slopes can pose problems for large masses of water wanting to flow down the hill and over the road. This can require designs such as ditches before the road, with culverts then running the water underneath the road, keeping it safe from the eroding water.
Drainage types can work in conjunction to create a better overall design. Smarter design can mean less work, cheaper project costs and better outcomes all round.
While proper drainage design and implementation adds cost and complexity to a project, in many situations it pays for itself - in extending the lifespan of the roadway, reducing ongoing maintenance costs, increasing access to site in emergency conditions, and reducing wear and tear on vehicles.
